What surprised me most about this hotel is that it only opens for a couple of short months annually, before closing completely until the snow returns.

Across the Hotel: Carlton Bar & Bel Etage

There are various locations to wine and dine across the hotel, but my absolute favourite was the Carlton Bar and Bel Etage. It’s here where you’ll be able to loosen up and unwind at any time of day, order an aperol spritz to enjoy within the sun or pick from the bar snacks menu. This can be where guests can enjoy a standard afternoon tea, complete with a glass of bubbles to enjoy sat by the hearth with a live pianist playing within the evenings.

The Carlton Hotel Gondola Pop Up

One other highlight from my visit was my night having fun with my (first ever) cheese fondue. I do know I do know, how very Swiss! On my first night on the hotel I had booked a gondola to experience the famous fondue once and for all, and I dare say I didn’t leave dissatisfied.

To change it up, I opted for the truffle fondue – a whole pot of melted cheese bubbling away with the likes of bread, baby potatoes and pickles to dip inside and devour. This was made all of the more higher with a glass of bubbles in hand, plus a distant speaker to enjoy my very own playlist (quite fittingly I selected Sinatra for the occasion).

Contained in the Rooms on the Carlton Hotel

Let me start by saying this: the rooms on the Carlton Hotel are a number of the largest hotel rooms I actually have ever stayed in for a hotel of this size. It just kept going! Multiple wardrobes, an oversized bathroom complete with each a shower and a shower tub, a sizeable outdoor balcony, a piece desk space and an enormous sitting area to go with my oversized king bed.

The Spa on the Carlton Hotel

I used to be quite lucky to sneak in a spa treatment during my stay, which I used to be especially excited for as I selected a Moving Mountains treatment. The Moving Mountains concept is one among the highlights of the hotel, because it offers a strategy to reconnect with nature and your surrounds, with considered treatments and menu options within the dining areas as I discussed earlier. My treatment was a massage with circulation improvement, which was of high importance for me after the long-haul flight to achieve Europe (and I had not travelled for some time beforehand!)

The Spa Facilities at The Carlton

Should you don’t fancy setting aside time for a treatment, there are still many facilities to utilize within the wellness area. From saunas and steam rooms to multiple swimming pools, there really are quite a lot of ways to pass your time outside of skiing. This can be a fantastic strategy to restore and recoup after an extended day trip in the weather, so remember to allow time to enjoy all the pieces the hotel has to supply within the wellness space.

Dinner and auf Wiedersehen!

For my last night on the hotel I enjoyed dinner within the Romanoff Restaurant. I used to be quite pleasantly surprised by how tasty all the pieces was and the way impeccable the service, given that is the hotel’s unusual dining restaurant (where there may be also a two Michelin star restaurant on site). Should you ask me, dinner on the Romanoff Restaurant is definitely price while, I couldn’t fault the evening one bit.

After St Moritz I ventured back toward Zurich by train, able to embark on my next journey to London. Catching the train from nearby Zurich is pretty uncomplicated and also you’ll just need to alter once in Chur. Nonetheless you may also opt to drive, hire a driver, or within the ice polo season you’ll notice most guests arrive by private jet. But in case you ask me, the train journey is simply too beautiful to pass up – especially in case you travel by the Glacier Express.
