What do the Lowell Observatory in Arizona, the world’s largest outdoor rodeo in Wyoming, Woodstock, Colorado’s Million Dollar Highway, a floating taco bar in the U.S. Virgin Islands and Hudson have in common?
They’re all placed on Travel Lemming’s list of 150 best things to do in the USA this summer. Of the travel publications list, 12 attractions are in the state of New York, with Woodstock coming in third for the state and 47th overall. Hudson came in last for the state and 145th overall.
Industry experts predict this summer will be the country’s biggest travel season yet, with airlines expected to be back to historic levels by August after two years of pent-up travel demand.
The list recommends visitors explore Woodstock on a summer afternoon or stretch it out to a weekend getaway if time allows. “Somehow, it’s the perfect place to do a million activities or absolutely nothing. When you visit, please respect the locals and their community,” reads the listing. To really get a taste of the region’s musical influence, spend a night where Bob Dylan’s Basement Tapes were recorded, just minutes outside Woodstock in West Saugerties.
Hudson is framed as a place to dine and shop, “perfect for foodies and nature-lovers alike” who are looking for a long weekend trip. The listing recommends browsing the antiques stores on Warren Street or taking a ferry across the river to Greene County’s craft breweries. Visitors might also enjoy going just north of Hudson towards Kinderhook, a bite-sized town that boasts history, creative shops and cafes.

The Best of USA list was created by Travel Lemming’s team of two dozen writers and editors, who reviewed hundreds of nominations. They describe Woodstock as “a hippie paradise” that “lives up to its iconic namesake.”
Other New York destinations include Smorgasburg, the High Line, Montauk, and Governors Ball Music Festival, among others. At the top of the 150-destination list are the Lowell Observatory in Flagstaff, Arizona; the Million Dollar Highway in Colorado; and the Fremont Solstice Parade in Seattle.
