The number of bookings at commercial accommodations in Hungary has marked a significant increase for September and October, compared to the figures of the same period last year, according to the About Hungary report.
The same shows that such figures indicate that fourth-quarter guest nights could surpass levels registered in 2019, SchengenVisaInfo.com reports.
“The number of bookings at commercial accommodations in Hungary for September and October is well over the figures of the same period a year earlier and suggest fourth-quarter guest nights could exceed levels in 2019, before the pandemic,” Lili Kelemen of bookings site Szallas.hu has stressed, noting that revenue per available room on its bookings increased by a total of 57 per cent in the second quarter compared to the figures of the same period last year.
Besides, the report notes that during the same period, the number of reservations increased by 15 per cent, while the number of guests increased by 12 per cent. At the same time, in the third quarter, long weekends are leading to an improvement in this sector; however, it has been emphasised that the lack of Russian travellers, as well as the tight labour market and bad weather conditions, have also had a notable impact.
Hungary has registered a total of 1,987,321 cases of COVID-19 infection since the start of the pandemic, while 46,886 people have died during the same period, based on the data provided by the World Health Organisation (WHO). The same source shows that as of July 10, a total of 16,418,264 vaccine doses have been administered in this country.
However, despite the ongoing pandemic situation, authorities in Hungary decided to lift the majority of the restrictions imposed due to the virus in order to help the country’s travel and tourism sector recover from the damages provoked by the virus.
Recently, the figures provided by the Hungarian Central Statistical Office (HCSO) showed that the number of nights spent by domestic guests in commercial accommodation establishments surged by more than half in May compared to the figures of the same period last year.
Still, despite the increase, the number of overnight stays in Hungary has to reach another 22 per cent of statistics recorded before the spread of the Coronavirus.
“The number of domestic tourist arrivals grew nearly two-fold and that of tourism nights more than one-and-a-half-fold. The former was 451,000 and the latter 921,000. Sixty-nine per cent of the nights were spent at hotels, their number rising around one-and-a-half-fold compared to a year earlier,” the statement issued by HCSO revealed.
Besides, the data also revealed that the circulation in Hungarian hotels as well as boarding houses rose by 1.2 and 3.7 times, more specifically, compared to May 2021.
