It’s no secret that we love our food here in Manchester. In fact, it’s one of the best things about living in Manchester. And now, it seems the travel pros are starting to catch on.
Ranking in Travel Mag’s top 20 “Best European Street Food Destinations”, Manchester found itself among Bristol as one of the only UK destinations named, alongside popular European destinations such as Krakow, Helsinki and Dusseldorf.
Selected for our fantastic annual food festivals, multiple street food destinations and innovative food, Manchester was praised for its “cornucopia” of global cuisine, with the judging panel also praising us for our local delicacies as well. We’ll take it that was all the pies.
Travel Mag said: “The city’s market scene, previously centred around apparel and the occasional fruit and veg stand, now includes hip food trucks frequented by an army of hungry office workers – and leisurely locals on weekends – who flock to Arndale Market and Manchester Markets to pick from a cornucopia of world cuisine.”
Hatch and Escape to Freight Island were named two of the city’s shining street food jewels, which both champion local businesses creating some of the best street food in the city.
Many of Manchester’s most successful businesses have begun as humble food trucks and market stalls, including beloved Ancoat’s restaurant, Viet Shack, and Salt & Pepper MCR.
