Miami welcomed more New Yorkers than any other city during the fall months. Florida has long attracted snowbirds and vacationers alike. That only increased during the pandemic as Northeasterners flocked for the outdoor-conducive Southern sun and the state’s laissez-faire approach to restrictions, making Miami International Airport and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport the most popular destinations for New Yorkers.
Miami is not the only Florida city at the top of the list. Orlando came in at No. 2, followed by Palm Beach at No. 7, Tampa at No. 8 and Fort Myers at No. 14.
Other top destinations from New York during the last three months of the year include Los Angeles, Atlanta, Chicago, San Francisco, Dallas and Houston.
Regardless of where travelers end up, those flying through New York airports should be prepared for a less-than-perfect experience. Newark and LaGuardia were the two worst airports in the U.S. for flight cancelations during the peak summer season. In terms of customer satisfaction, both airports fared quite poorly in this year’s J.D. Power rankings. John F. Kennedy International Airport, however, tied for third place among large airports and is likely passengers’ best bet to guarantee an enjoyable experience wherever they venture.

Rankings are based on a sample of 10% of domestic air travel passengers out of Newark Liberty, Westchester County, MacArthur, JFK, LaGuardia and Stewart airports from Oct. 1 through Dec. 31, 2021.
