Australians are longing for a tropical holiday as our nation prepares to open its borders to the world in just one week.
New Flight Centre data has revealed almost 50 per cent of bookings made between February 1 to 10 were to Fiji.
Quentin Long from Australian Traveller magazine said this is because Fiji is open and “it can be accessed quite easily”.

Travellers also have their sights set on Hawaii as well as the United Kingdom.
Mr Long said the latter destination reflected bookings from expats returning home.

As more people prepare to fly, Mr Long shared his top travel tips to stay safe while travelling.
“I would be booking with a travel agent because they will be able to navigate through all of the different complexities you (will) come across,” he said.
“The second thing I’d say is the whole industry is gearing up to a massive sale period from the end of March and into April.
“As Omicron eases off you’ll see all of those deals come through.
“Destinations like North America and Europe for the northern hemisphere summer, you’ll see those deals.
“Finally, make sure you get COVID-19 travel insurance if you are travelling overseas.”

For those who are looking to book a domestic flight, Mr Long said the best time is now.
“It will still be a very strong year in 2022,” he said.
