Mexico hosts Americans’ favorite destinations for vacation and there are so many wonderful cities and landscapes to choose from. The Mexican government has been analyzing data and has recently announced the three main destinations tourists will visit in Mexico during July and August.
Miguel Torruco Marqués, Secretary of the Mexican Secretariat of Tourism (Sectur, by its Spanish acronym), announced that these locations have reported the highest hotel occupancy..
The Mexican government expects over 51 million tourists —Mexican and foreigners— and high revenues in hotel stays. Details of current hotel occupancy were revealed and numbers indicate that hotel stays have increased 14.5% this year compared to 2021.
Cancun remains the number one destination in Mexico and keeps gaining popularity. Recent reports show that visits have increased 25% compared to pre-pandemic numbers and the most recent data shared by Marqués reported hotel occupancy of 73.6% until August.
Puerto Vallarta is the second most popular destination and already has 71.2% of hotel occupancy for the next few weeks. In third place, Los Cabos, has already reached 67.3% occupancy.
At Los Cabos, local authorities have been working on strategies to increase its popularity and, according to recent official numbers, this location has surpassed Puerto Vallarta in popularity and is currently receiving more visitors.
Across Mexico, the average hotel occupancy for the summer is 57.8%, but top destinations like the Quintana Roo region —which includes Cancun, Playa del Carmen, and Tulum— surpass the country average.
Secretary Torruco Marqués has also ruled out that the fifth COVID wave will affect tourism this summer and made an emphasis on the fact that the Mexican population has already received vaccinations and that it shouldn’t have a major impact.
Why Travelers Love Cancun, Puerto Vallarta and Los Cabos
Cancun, Mexico’s top destination, has incredible beaches and fascinating nearby locations: from spectacular cenotes —natural pits— to incredible islands like Isla Mujeres. And there are so many attractions and impressive infrastructure.
New hotels, resorts, and even amusement parks have been developed during the past few years. Just a few days ago the Royal Uni All-Inclusive Resort opened its doors and Marriott recently announced a new all-included resort that will have its own water park. Cancun has it all, for all ages: from relaxing Caribbean beaches to fascinating water sports and parks to impressive parties that last all night.
On the pacific coast, in Baja California, Los Cabos offers travelers impressive sceneries, deep blue waters, and the most luxurious hotels and spas. It is also known for its golf courses and diverse activities and adventures.
Travelers can visit the famous Arch of Cabo San Lucas and explore the fascinating rock structure or take a water taxi to visit the beautiful Lovers Beach and enjoy the charming beach. Los Cabos offers spectacular attractions that aren’t too crowded and allow visitors to calmly experience its natural beauty.
More to the south, in Jalisco, visitors will find another fascinating resort town: Puerto Vallarta. In this coastal city, travelers can enjoy beaches and swim in the safe, calm, and blue waters of Banderas Bay —the largest bay in Mexico— and visit all the spectacular beaches nearby.
Walking by Puerto Vallarta’s iconic Malecon is one of the top attractions, visitors can enjoy artistic performances, buy art and crafts created by local artisans and have a delicious meal at one of the many great restaurants in the area. Visitors can also enjoy a beach day at the Romantic Zone or connect with nature at the beautiful botanical gardens.
Cancun, Los Cabos, and Puerto Vallarta offer travelers beautiful beaches, warm weather, unique experiences, and also great adventures, and fascinating attractions. In all these destinations families, friends and couples can have a wonderful time and create experiences that adapt to everyone’s needs.
