Anchal: The delay in tourism development works of Oliyarik waterfalls near Anchal in Kollam backlashes the efforts to explore the tourism potential of the region. Eroor grama panchayat had completed the first phase of renovation in a fast pace and winded up within a short time. However, the second phase of work has been halted temporarily.
Habitat Group has received the contract of construction under the supervision of the District Tourism Promotion Council. Pavements have been built on both sides of the waterfalls to ensure safety of the visitors. Panchayat had granted Rs 8 lakh for this. Only the piling and beam construction listed in the second phase of works have been completed so far.
The tourism department has granted Rs 42.5 lakh for the construction works in Oliyarik. A canteen, office, bathing area, and washroom facilities will also be set up here. The construction works will be completed without tampering the waterfalls or nature here.
The waterfall is situated in the first ward of Eroor grama panchayat, four kilometres away from Mavila on Anchal- Punalur route. The project was initiated to explore the tourism potential of the region along with the tourism development works in Palaruvi and Kumbhavurutty.
