Where do you go to get the best alternative Christmas presents and stocking fillers? We’re not talking online here … we want suggestions for great independent high streets that support local makers, cool markets selling handcrafted goods, or perhaps there’s a winter weekend of artists’ open studios near you where you can hunt down unusual artisan gifts. We’re after suggestions in the UK (and good value not high-end shops!) – simply share your suggestion and why you love it and you might even bag a trip yourself.

Keep your tip to about 100 words
The best tip of the week, chosen by Tom Hall of Lonely Planet, will win a £200 voucher to stay at a Sawday’s property – the company has more than 3,000 in the UK and Europe. The best tips will appear on the Guardian Travel website, and maybe in the paper, too.
