Thought COVID-19 travel restrictions were over? Unfortunately, they’re not.
Some countries still have travel restrictions, including various popular destinations for American tourists.
In this article, we look at four destinations that have eased their travel restrictions this week.
1. The U.S. Virgin Islands
The U.S. Virgin Islands are a popular tropical destination for many Americans. However, the islands have maintained most of their travel restrictions throughout the pandemic, but they did remove testing for vaccinated Americans two months ago.
However, as of May 31, 2022, the U.S. Virgin Islands will begin an ‘open door phase.’ As a result, the United States territory will drop all COVID-19 restrictions, including:
- Proof of vaccination
- Testing
- Health forms
The new rules will apply to each of the islands: St. Croix, St. John, and St. Thomas. Previously, unvaccinated American tourists still needed to show a negative PCR test or an antigen test.
However, there’s one major thing to know: these changes only apply to U.S. citizens coming from the United States. If a U.S. citizen is traveling from an international territory, such as Mexico, the current restrictions will stay in place.
Joseph Boschulte, the commissioner of tourism, said: “The health and well-being of our residents and visitors alike continue to be our biggest priority,”
“The Department of Tourism along with Governor Bryan’s Office and the Virgin Islands Department of Health, have worked together to closely monitor the COVID cases in the territory and strategically take steps that will ensure the health and safety of our residents and visitors.”
“Our measures have proven successful and give us the confidence to continue to ease travel and testing requirements to the territory so that we can continue to safely welcome visitors,” he added.
2. The Philippines
It’s hard to find a more beautiful nation worldwide than The Philippines. With over 6,000 islands, world-class beaches, and millions of locals with excellent English-speaking skills, the country offers an excellent vacation.
The Philippines has just removed all testing requirements and mandatory travel insurance for fully vaccinated tourists from May 30, 2022.
Under the new entry requirements, travelers with at least one booster shot on top of their initial vaccinations can present proof of vaccination instead of a PCR test.
Travelers aged 17 and under don’t require testing if they’ve received two standard COVID-19 vaccine shots; they don’t need the booster shot to enter.
3. Morocco
Morocco is the most popular African destination for many people. And, to boost their tourism industry, they’ve just eased COVID-19 entry requirements.
Local officials said: “The Moroccan government has decided to cancel the PCR test condition for entry into Moroccan territory. This decision will come into force upon publication of this press release,” officials confirmed on May 17.
Currently, travelers can visit Morocco if they complete a health form before boarding, have proof of vaccination, or a negative PCR test before arrival.
Therefore, fully vaccinated Americans only need to complete the health form to enter Morocco.
4. Trinidad & Tobago
Trinidad and Tobago will lift its travel pass system from June 1, 2022. Therefore, unvaccinated travelers can enter the nation with a negative PCR or antigen test.
Health Minister, Terrence Deyalsingh, said: “We are seeing a waning of this acute phase of the pandemic. But please note the pandemic is still with us. As of Wednesday, June 1, 2022, I am authorized by the prime minister to tell the country, especially those who travel, that the TT Travel Pass system will be discontinued.”
“What this means is that un-vaxxed national and non-nationals can enter Trinidad and Tobago, so you don’t have to prove your vaccination status. However, you do have to provide either a negative PCR or antigen test (taken) 48 hours prior to entry.”
“In the absence of a test that person will be asked to go into state-supervised quarantine at their cost and provide a negative PCR or antigen at any time during their quarantine period as a condition of release before going home,”
However, other internal COVID-19 restrictions, such as mask-wearing, social distancing, and handwashing will remain.
