These are Tripadvisor’s Top ‘New’ Destinations of 2022

In 2022, travel is back in business. And whether you’re looking to jet off to some far-flung paradise or keep it cosy with a staycation, everyone’s on the lookout for some top-drawer sightseeing.

Review site TripAdvisor has chimed in with what it says are the top ‘new destinations’ that holidaymakers are planning on going to this year. In analysing its own visitor data, the site has created two lists: one of global destinations and another of tourist hotspots in the UK.

So, what makes a destination ‘new’, exactly? Well, we aren’t really talking about previously unknown or undiscovered places. TripAdvisor calculated its rankings by analysing which holiday hotspots have seen the most growth in online traffic over the past year. These places are more ‘on the rise’ than ‘new’.

In TripAdvisor’s list of global destinations, the number one spot went to Key West, Florida: a city renowned for its pristine turquoise waters and iconic conch-style architecture. Then comes Baa Atoll in the Maldives, which is known for its endless expanses of white sand and general laidback vibes. Rounding out the top three is that little known beauty, New York City. It’s a solid list – if not exactly a surprising one.

More interesting is TripAdvisor’s pick of the top ‘new’ UK destinations. The number one spot went to Brithdir in Gwynedd, Wales – a tiny, totally picturesque hamlet near the Coed y Brenin Forest Park. Second was Llanberis, a Welsh lakeside town at the foot of Snowdon, while third was Fulford, a historic village just outside York.

Here are both full lists in all their glory.
