Greece Remains One of the Top Favorite Tourism Destinations for Britons

Greece continues to be one of the favourite destinations for travellers from the UK who are planning to spend Easter out of the country.

The data provided by ForwardKeys shows that Easter booking rates for Greece so far increased by 26 per cent compared to the pre-pandemic period when there were no travel restrictions in place.

On the other hand, when compared to 2021, this year’s booking rates have increased by 160 per cent, thus, making Greece one of the most resilient international destinations for UK travellers in Easter 2022.

The increase in the booking rates follows the announcement of the UK government made earlier this month, SchengenVisaInfo.com reports.

The latter’s authorities revealed that travellers from the UK who have been fully vaccinated against the virus would no longer be required to meet the COVID-19 testing requirement when returning to the UK.

The relaxation of travel rules by several European countries has also had a significant impact on the increase of booking rates. Nonetheless, travellers from the UK find it difficult to travel with kids who have not been vaccinated against the virus as they continue to be required to meet certain COVID-19 restrictions.

For this reason, UK travellers are choosing other destinations too, to spend their vacation at.

“Entry restrictions continue to hamper recovery – despite the strong reactivation seen in the UK outbound market following the relaxation of entry requirements on return to Britain. British families still find it difficult to travel to short-haul popular winter sun destinations in Europe with unvaccinated children, prompting a strong preference for destinations afar such as Mexico, Maldives or Barbados,” VP of Insights at ForwardKeys, Olivier Ponti said.

In contrast to Greece, which currently stands in fourth place in terms of bookings from the UK nationals for Easter, Cyprus is the most resilient international destination, standing in the first place.

Easter bookings for Cyprus increased by 68 per cent compared to 2019 and 126 per cent compared to last year.

The booking rates for Spain have shown a positive trend too. Until now, the Easter bookings for Spain have increased by 5 per cent compared to the pre-pandemic period. The difference is even more significant in comparison to 2021. Compared to last year, this year’s booking rates for Spain have increased by 141 per cent.
