If you’re hoping to travel a little more sustainably, Scandinavian cities should be top of your list – according to a new report.
The rankings for the Global Destinations Sustainability Index are in and the top 10 destinations have been named.
Every year judges look at 70 indicators – including the likes of CO2 emissions, air quality and unemployment – to give each spot a sustainability score.
It seems Gothenburg retains the top spot from last year, at 93%, with judges noting the Swedish city performed well for green public transport and biodiversity.
It also has green pledges for the future as, according to the report, the city has ‘set out to become fossil-independent by 2030 and to heavily reduce greenhouse-gas emissions, from traded and non-traded sectors, by 2050.’
Bergen – a city on Norway’s southwestern coast – placed second with 88%, down to its social equality and reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.
